Richmond VA and Its Attractions

Richmond, Virginia is one of the largest cities in the United States and is known as a cultural center. Richmond, the second largest city of Virginia, is amongst America's oldest major metropolises.

Patrick Henry, a US Founding Father, famously proclaimed at the outset of the American Revolution, "give me liberty or give me Death," at the St. John's Baptist Church in 1775. The historic White House of the Confederacy (home of the Confederate president Jefferson Davis at the time), is now part of Richmond's historic district, named Court End.

Carlin once wrote, "Richmond, Virginia is a town of the past and I would have been there for my own sake, but I had to get to Boston." That was the city where he and his family moved prior to beginning his routine stand-up comedy routines. He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, and grew up in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Carlin said that Richmond was like a city where all the people who'd gone to college had settled down, except for a lot of "dirt people." Those who went to school there today are considered to be rich, while those who didn't end up going to college have settled down elsewhere in the region. According to Carlin, if you go to Richmond and look around, you'll see some of the same people in different parts of the city who lived in the earlier years.

Some of those who live in the Richmond area today are doctors, lawyers and other professionals, who've made it big in the legal and financial fields. Others are retired people who like to live in the country, where they can enjoy the scenic beauty and scenery of their area.

Carlin said that when he first decided to move to the area, his wife thought he was going to move into the city. However, in his words, "I can live in a tent and live with my cats, and they won't take offense to it."

Carlin lives in a three-bedroom house, which he shares with his wife, June Carlin and their two daughters. There's an attached garage, but it's not so large that he can park his van outside so it's perfect for people like him who work from home.

"It's amazing what a good life can do for a person," said Carlin. "I used to work with the FBI. I always joke that I was working on a mission to infiltrate their inner circle. Now, I'm looking out the window on my porch and I'm thinking, 'I'm looking in the right place'!"

Carlin is known as a humorist and comic. His act often includes long, detailed stories that poke fun at everyday people. Sometimes, he'll say things about their personal lives that are not very pleasant. In other words, he may tell a story about his family that is upsetting, offensive or even downright inappropriate.

The folks living in Richmond VA know that they are privileged. That's why they have an abundance of wonderful things to offer in terms of entertainment. Some of the most popular events in the area include the annual River City Comedy Festival, the annual Richmond International Fringe Festival, the Richmond International Film Festival and a wide variety of festivals and events that feature art and music. The biggest festivals are held in April and May.

Of course, the best time of year to visit the town of Richmond Va. is during the summer months. During those months, you will be treated to a variety of great music, theater, food and fun activities. If you aren't planning to drive, you can take a tour of the area with your own bike or ride the bus.

While you're in town, you might want to explore the downtown area. There are numerous historic buildings in this part of town that date back over a hundred years. If you're looking for a place to eat, you will find it is available in any of the restaurants, bars and cafes.

And don't think that you need a lot of money to get out there in the world. A trip to the Richmond VA area can be accomplished at the same affordable price as going to New York or Chicago.
